My Art Studio

Like many other flickr folk, I am an artist *and* a photographer. I have a small studio space in the garage of our home and I get out there two hours or so daily. I like drawing, painting, collage and printmaking. Lately I've been experimenting with crayon etchings. Right now I'm finishing up a couple of monotype/chine collé pieces and I'm researching encaustic painting.

Art is a lot if fun.

University of Art and Design Helsinki (Taideteollinen korkeakoulu in Finnish) is the largest art university in the Nordic countries. It was founded in 1871. Media Centre Lume - the National Research and Development Center of audiovisual media - is also located in the university. The university grants the following academic degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Licentiate of Arts and Doctor of Arts. The ratio of foreign students is the highest of Finnish universities.

The Museum of Fine Art in Houston is a wonderful place but they do have a rather strange photography policy which limits the use of cameras to particular rooms in the building. I was under the impression that the main entrance hall, with this enormous wall engraved with donor names, was one of the "photo safe" zones but as soon as I lifted the camera, a very nice security person told me that I couldn't take photos of the art for copyright reasons. I explained that I wasn't actually taking photos containing any of the sculptures but that I merely wanted to capture the great lines of the architecture so, after a bit more discussion, I was allowed to take this shot. I spent the rest of the day looking at art and kept the lens cap on.

Open Call: 31 Women in Art Photography

In March 2010, in honor of Women’s History Month, Humble Arts Foundation ( hafny.org ) will present its second edition of 31 Women in Art Photography, a six-week exhibition celebrating 31 of the most innovative women in emerging art photography. The exhibition will be co-curated by Charlotte Cotton and Jon Feinstein, and will open on March 6 at Affirmation Arts in NYC during The Armory Show 2010.

Submission Deadlines
Early: Friday, November 20, 2009, 12AM
Late: Friday, December 18, 2009, 12AM

Eligibility
In order to keep the show as fresh and diverse as possible, photographers who exhibited in our 2008 exhibition are not eligible.

台北市文化局與當代藝術館合作「氣象萬千Art Supply」公共藝術展，包括五月天樂團也要以機器人「變形DNA」參展，把被當地居民視為「廢墟」的萬華四○六廣場，換上新風貌。萬華四○六廣場坐落於台北市中華路與長沙街交接處，是日據時代的「西本願寺」遺址，雖被指定為古蹟，但只剩部分殘跡，明年二月開始修繕。台北市文化局將利用修繕前的這段空檔，從十一月到明年二月二十八日，與當代藝術館合作策畫「氣象萬千Art Supply」公共藝術展，盼以藝術活動，活化萬華四○六廣場。
