Children Everywhere

Day three hundred thirty-five/365.
Perhaps life would be enriched if there were signs of children everywhere. Children's art, photos of kids, things that children use to learn and play. Some environments are simply too "adult." We have so much to learn from a child's innocent questioning, the elemental emotion, the wide-eyed view of life.

What if every public place was required to have at least one reminder of kids?

The Start of My Personal Art Gallery
art prints
This is the start of my personal print collection. These three photos are from friends of mine, all in black and white and all signed. I had two of them matted and mounted this week (one was already done for me), so I thouight it was time to hang them on the wall. I've got some notes on the image giving more information for each print.

A big thanks to Joseph Szymanski, Bryan Villarin, and Tom Webb for the prints.

I've also got 2 more coming soon from Cody Redmon and Eric Reagan. Their photos will make the collection a bit more filled-out. Oh, and I still need to get in touch with Jerry Deese for a 6th addition.

Ascott House Gardens, Buckinghamshire, UK | National Trust gardens with innovative earth sculpture in the Lynn Garden (2 of 22)
clip art borders
Ascott House Gardens, Buckinghamshire, UK: The attractive gardens at Ascott House, a UK National Trust property in Buckinghamshire, England have an extensive mixture of formal, informal and natural garden features.

A visit to Ascott House provides a lot of variety and different types of garden environment. It is particularly impressive in spring time with massed plantings of spring bulbs as far as the eye can see. The wide herbaceous borders in summer are excellent too and all year interest is provided by the land art in the Lynn garden.

This photo shows some of the earth sculpture or land art in the Lynn garden. The white flowering trees really enliven the garden at this time of year.

Details Features range from fields of daffodils, narcissi and fritillaries beneath mature trees in spring; flowering meadows of tulips and spring bulbs; traditional English herbaceous borders with stunning planting in high summer; colorful bedding plant schemes surrounding impressive and grand fountains (such as the Venus and Cupid / Eros fountains by the famous American sculptor Thomas Waldo Story); a picturesque lily pond and thatched summerhouse; neatly clipped yew hedges and even a topiary sundial.

A relatively new feature of the garden is an innovative area devoted to ‘land art’ or ‘earth sculpture’ where mounds of earth and ditches (echoing the earth works of Iron Age Britain on the nearby Chiltern Hills) are planted with grasses, ornamental trees and combined with tasteful water features. The many shades of green are soothing to the eye and give this part of the garden (called the Lynn Garden) a very tranquil atmosphere.

Location: Ascot House, Wing, near Leighton Buzzard, Buckinghamshire, LU7 0PS, UK

UK OSGB Map Reference: OS165:SP891230

Links: A brief description of the house and gardens, together with opening details, is given on the National Trust, Ascott House website.

A museum opened in 1986 in Paris that used to be the Orsay Station (Gare d'Orsay). It houses French art from 1848 to 1915.

The station building was built from 1898 to 1900

these are some of my better on the coach shots of the museum.

The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the left bank of the Seine, housed in the former railway station, the Gare d'Orsay. It holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography, and is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist masterpieces by popular painters such as Monet and Renoir. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986.

Passing the square with the entrance to the Gare du Musée d'Orsay. Rhino sculpture is now on the left.

The Musée d'Orsay station is a railway station located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

It is operated by the SNCF in the basement of the old Gare d'Orsay, which was monumental station for 39 years the railhead of the company's railway from Paris to Orleans, which has been transformed into a museum dedicated the art of the nineteenth century in the 1980s under the name of the Orsay Museum. The building was declared a historical monument in 1978.

The square is called Place Henry Millon de Montherlant.

It was a Mystic Lightning Storm. WOW what an incredible night and storm this was. I got more images out of this one night storm then I have ever done before. And what was really amazing is, it was one year to the day my father passed away. So, this one is for him. Thanks Dad! Never forgotten always missed. 'Tis thou, alone, who with thy mystic fan, Work'st more than Wisdom, Art, or Nature can, To rouse the sacred madness; and awake The frost-bound-blood, and spirits; and to make Them frantic with thy raptures, flashing through The soul, like lightning, and as active too. -Herrick, Robert. www.BoInsogna.com

The Toronto Zoo has set aside space in their Africa Exhibit this summer to showcase some interesting, and surprisingly diverse African art, sculpture and carvings. Most of the items are for sale, and there is an actual sculptor working onsite that visitors can watch or chat with. Most of the displayed items are made from stone or wood, so this image is not representative, but I really liked the colours of the wall hangings in this shot.
