Shadow Art Fair

After the roaring success of Ypsilanti's first Shadow Art Fair back in the summer, we're at it again, this time on the 1st and 2nd December, with even more local artists involved and live entertainment on the Friday night. Drinking tasty beer while shopping for art - it doesn't get much better than that.

I'll be there again selling my pinhole prints and homemade paintcan pinhole cameras. Come along and say hi!

Come Together: The Art Fair and the Biennale
art fair
The Art Fair and the Biennale have grown to become arguably the two most significant mechanisms of the international art market for the dissemination and distribution of art works across national and cultural boundaries. This course will analyze and discuss the trajectory of the art fair and the biennale taking into account historical precedents, cultural contexts, economic factors and the players who have dominated these arenas. Topics covered will include globalization, Art Basel, soft power diplomacy, national pride, cultural rehabilitation, Art Chicago, urban regeneration, temporal zones of art activity, the curator as rock star, funding the arts, Sub prime meltdown, the Miami factor, and more.

Frog on Luudes (Kid Art Auction '09)
kids art
Image by Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing]
Claire (3yo) created this masterpiece from a simple paper bag, reproducible "frog part" cutouts, and a little help from pre-school teachers.

Creativity is not the focus of this project - it's purely "art is for art's sake." (I own it's twin created almost exactly a year ago from the exact same reproducible cutouts.)

I was told it was a frog, but the true identity of the creature is only known unto itself. The rectangle tongue and triangle-like toes(?) give this thing an unidentifiable species origin.

Make of it what you will.

Bidding starts at . Enter your bids (and/or comments) below.

2010 Christmas Card Front

A few nice christmas clip art images I found:

2010 Christmas Card Front

The trees are two different rubber stamps. The lights are felt tip pen dots. The coconuts were an on-line clip art image re-sized to approximately 1/2" wide. I added the letters to the top of the image. Nine complete sets of letters were arranged for a 8.5X11 size then printed. All 14 letters were cut out from paper then individually glued to a piece of floss (mint flavor if someone licks it!). Cuts into the side were from from special clippers. Floss was strung and then taped on the back side to hold in place.

Genius coworker gift

Kathy, a coworker of mine at Reading Public Library, gave out the most ingenious Christmas gifts to our department.

This delightfully-packaged emergency lunch kit contains: a half can-sized diet ginger ale, a small can of pineapple chunks, a snack bag of Smartfood popcorn, a snack pack of Fig Newtons, a packet of sugar free cocoa, a portable micrwaveable tomato soup cup thing, and plastic cutlery wrapped in a cute red gingham paper napkin. It's brilliant.

The "mostly mouse-proof" refers to a little mouse problem earlier this year. Note the adorable mouse and lock clip art.

Thank you Kathy!
