I ended up chatting with the man who ran this stand for quite a bit (and also bought a small charm from him). We talked about the weather and that it would snow but also about education on Indian reservations and how it was still so recent that control over Indian education had been returned to the hands of the reservations (rightly so) and how things were getting better, kind of, because at the very least kids were learning the languages of their cultures and not being sent away to isolate and brainwash the Indian out of them.
